A Canadian soldier controls the traffic on the streets of Bernières-sur-Mer. The church has been hit by several grenade rounds. The steeple and the side roof were damaged. Farther north, at Juno Beach, the D-Day Operation 'Overlord' started the liberation of France in World War II.
