Auchterarder House is a neo-Jacobin-style mansion of red sandstone, built in 1834 by William Burn for James Hunter. It was expanded and renovated in 1886-1887. renowned architect John James Burnet (1857-1938) for the new owner of this house - steam magnate James Reid. The neo-Jacobin style has nothing to do with revolutionaries. The Jacobin style in architecture and interior decor owes its name to the first English ruler of the Stuart family - Jacob I. The Neo-Jacobin style refers to historicism - a direction in architecture and decorative art of the 19th century, combining various architectural, already “past”, “historical” styles (in other words, it is eclecticism).
