The Rijksmuseum in 1975 The State Museum, the Rijksmuseum is an art museum in Amsterdam (Netherlands). The museum was founded in 1808 by Napoleon’s brother I, King of the Netherlands Louis Bonaparte. Opened to public visits in 1815. The new building was built in 1877-1885 by architect Peter Kuipers. The museum has an art collection (paintings, sculptures and decorative art, art from Asian countries), a historical collection (archaeological artifacts, paintings, sculptures, clothes) and a collection of drawings, prints and photographs. The basis of the art collection is composed of numerous works by Dutch masters of the 15th – 19th centuries, in particular, the well-known masters of the 17th century, primarily Rembrandt, Vermeer and Hals, as well as de Hoch, Sten, Reusdal, van der Gelst, are represented in en Skorel and others.
