Lyon - Island Barb.Nazvanie island comes from the Latin insula barbara - wild island. In the V century on the island is based Abbey, later converted into a monastery, which has become over time one of the richest in this part of France. The monastery existed until 1549, after which he turned to the monks of the Canons. In 1793 the remains of the monastery's property sold and merged with the island located on the right bank of the Saone commune of Saint-Rambert (Saint-Rambert). In 1827 through Sonu spanned suspension bridge, passing through the island of Barbe - today it is the oldest surviving bridges. In 1963 the commune of Saint-Rambert-l'Ile-Barbe is a member of the 9th district of Lyon.
