The Welsford-Parker Monument, also known as the Crimean War Monument or the Sevastopol Monument, is a triumphal arch with a lion sculpture located in the Old Burial Ground in the Canadian city of Halifax, Nova Scotia. It is the second oldest a military monument in Canada (1860) (the Montcalm-Woffe Monument in Quebec was built in 1828) and the only monument to the Crimean War in North America. The arch and sculpture of the lion was created in 1860 by the sculptor George Lang in honor of the victory of the British in the Crimean War and volunteers from Nova Scotia who fought in this war. The first war outside of North America, in which Canadians participated, was the Crimean campaign of 1853 -56 years. There were no regular Canadian units in Crimea. A small number of Canadian volunteers fought on the side of Great Britain and its allies - France and Turkey.
