The Pont des Arts is a pedestrian bridge over the Seine River, which leads from the Institut de France to the Louvre. Its name comes from the Louvre Museum, which was called Palais des Arts (Palace of Arts) at the time of construction in the early 19th century. The bridge has always been a popular destination for walkers and tourists because it offers a wonderful view on the buildings on the shore and the Ile de la Cité. Until 2015, the bridge was still covered by thousands of padlocks, which were attached by couples as romantic gesture. After a portion of the railing collapsed under the burden, the locks were removed.
