Old and rundown trucks are parked near some of the derelict buildings and former movie sets on Spahn Movie Ranch in Chatsworth. This was taken during an extensive criminal investigation involving Charles Manson and the Family. Photograph dated February 1, 1971. Spahn Ranch, located on Santa Susana Pass Road in Chatsworth, was once originally owned by silent film actor William S. Hart. It was a popular backdrop for many western films and a western village movie set shown here existed until it was destroyed by fire in 1973. George Spahn purchased the property in 1948. Twenty years later, Charles Manson and his family moved there after Manson made arrangements for one of the family members, Lynette Fromme, to do Spahn's housekeeping and be his companion in exchange for living there rent-free. Police first raided Spahn Ranch in August 1969 in search of criminal evidence
