As one of the oldest parts of Paris, the area around the Place de la Contrescarpe until today retains its medieval flair, untouched from Baron Haussman's restructuring plans in the 19th century. It can be found here several historic pubs where famous guests like Molière, Racine and Rabelais were staying, Ernest Hemingway lived and worked here. Far from the typical tourist routes, the place is an authentic insight into the Paris of yesteryear. Today students from the nearby university district love to come here.
