The Port of Los Angeles' new $16,000,000 combination passenger-cargo terminal, rated by the shipping industry as one of the finest in the world, occupies a 50-acre site on the harbor's main channel. The combination building, foreground, has cargo facilities on the first floor and passenger accomodations on the second level, reached by ramps, elevators, stairways and escalators. A second major structure in the complex, seen in background, is a 1008 x 200 foot clear-span cargo shed, whose capacity is 35,000 tons of cargo. The terminal, at which five ocean-going vessels can be worked simultaneously, is operated by Consolidated Marine, Inc., for American Mail Line, American President Lines, and the Pacific Far East Line.
