On June 6, 1712, Queen Sophie Luise, third wife of the Prussian King Friedrich I, laid the foundation for the population of the Sophie and Große Hamburger Straße (names since 1837). In the following year, the simple hall church, the architect of which is not known, can be inaugurated.1729-35 At the instigation of King Friedrich Wilhelm I, the 69 meter high, baroque west tower is added by Johann Friedrich Grael. During conversion work by Baumeister Moser, two sacristy areas were added in 1834 on the south side (left) and the interior is changed. In 1892, the nave of Adolf Heyden and Kurt Berndt Neobarock is converted and adapted to the tower, at the same time there is a redesign of the interior. Old churchyard around the church in 1853, there are still burials until the turn of the century-in 1886 Leopold von Ranke was buried here.
