14 August 1944View of damage to the Ponte Vecchio from the east. The Germans destroyed all of the bridges over the River Arno with exception of the Ponte Vecchio before evacuating Florence on August 11, 1944. The Ponte Vecchio was blocked by demolishing the houses on both ends and mining the bridge.
