Nestled against the hills at 3900 Marmion Way in Highland Park, is the former home of Beth-El Methodist Church. This single story building with horizontal wood siding above a river rock foundation, features a bell tower and an overhanging porch. Part of the "Beth-El" sign is visible above the door. In 1899, Dr. Joseph P. Widney founded a church called Nazarene Methodist Church, which was located on the corner of Ninth and Santee streets in Los Angeles. After the Church of the Nazarene was founded in 1903, Dr. Widney renamed his church Beth-El Methodist. In late 1906, after determining that the church was not successful at the Ninth and Santee location, Dr. Widney built this structure in Highland Park.
