Photograph caption dated January 2, 1947 reads, "The large arrow points to the iron cover which was blown off the manhole during the blast. Small arrows show windows in an adjoining building which were shattered in the explosion. Cause of the blast was not immediately determined." Some businesses seen are Lang's Cafe (901 S. Grand Avenue), a liquor store, and a hotel.
