The founder of this institution - Margareta Splinter (by marriage van Jutphaas) was childless and before the death of her husband decided that he wanted to create a shelter. In his will, she pointed out that it was intended for eight unmarried women without children who have fallen into poverty. Margaret died in 1645, the building was constructed in 1646, the first guests were settled in 1648. Accommodation was free, in addition, all pansionerki received yearly allowance of 100 guilders. The institution still governed by established Margaretha Splinter Fund, one of the regents who, according to her will, always includes representatives of a noble family Van Foreest.
