Badminton House has been the main residence of the English Dukes of the Beauforts since the end of the 17th century, when the Somerset family moved here from the medieval Raglan Castle. The current manor house in Gloucestershire was erected at the beginning of the 18th century on the foundation of earlier buildings according to the palladian project of William Kent. During the Second World War, the manor house, with the permission of the Duke of Beaufort, was occupied by Maria Tekskaya. Closer to our time, filming of such historical films as The Rest of the Day and Pearl Harbor took place here. Badminton manor has long been famous for its sports traditions - fox hunting, annual equestrian eventing and badminton game, which takes its name from this estate.
