Arches of the Scaligers. Tombs of the family of Della Scala, the dynasty that ruled Verona from the middle of the XIII to the end of the XIV centuries. They belonged to the Gibellines (supporters of the supreme authority of the Holy Roman Emperor. Their rivals, Guelphs, advocated strengthening the authority of the Holy See led by the Pope.) In the foreground is the Arch of Mastino II, in the back left is the Arch of Cancignorio, and on the right above the entrance to the church of Santa Maria Antica arch Kangrande I.
