The change of the political situation in Lviv is reflected in the change of the name of its main street. Since the end of XVIII century it was called the Lower Ramparts, since 1855 it was called the odd side of Karl Ludwig lower, chotnaya - Carl Ludwig top, from 1871 odd side - Karl Ludwig, and chotnaya - Hetman. In 1919 odd side, bearing the name of the Austrian Archduke it was renamed the Polish authorities in the street of Legions. However, in the Polish city colloquially both sides of the avenue had already received a well-established name - Hetman's shafts (Polish Wały Hetmańskie.). In 1940, Soviet authorities renamed boulevard into the street first of May. German occupation authorities again divided into two sides of the prospectus, even side became known Opernshtrasse (it Opernstrasse.), Odd - Muzeumshtrasse (. It Museumstrasse) in 1942, they were united and were called Adolf Hitler Platz (German: Adolf Hitler platz.).
