In order to expand and maintain its colonial expansion by Great Britain at the end of the 19th century, it was decided to build a railway line, one of the sections of which was supposed to cross the Gohtwin Stream. The tasks of engineer Arthur Rendel (Sir Arthur Rendel) included the construction of a viaduct, later called Goteyk. The material for the embodiment of this extremely bold engineering plan was steel, the details of which were made by the Pennsylvania Steel Company and delivered to Burma from the United States. The construction of the bridge began on April 28, 1899 and ended by January 1, 1900. At the time of construction, the viaduct was the tallest structure of its kind in the world, with a height of 250 meters at its highest point. The viaduct is currently in use, however, due to its technical condition, trains pass through it twice a day, moving at low speed.
