Hospital of the Holy Spirit or Shelter of the Holy Spirit (Heilig-Geist-Spital) is one of the oldest hospitals in Europe. For a long time, it was the largest medical institution in Germany. The Hospital of the Holy Spirit was built in 1332, in the Old Town. The hospital building is located on the banks of the Pegnitz River, one of its wings is thrown across the river, two arches resemble glasses in shape, so the hospital building was called “Nuremberg glasses” by local residents. In the 15th century, the Church of the Holy Spirit was kept in a small “home” church one of the greatest Christian relics, for centuries has been a symbol of the strength and power of the Holy Roman emperors - the Spear of Longinus, or the Spear of Fate. Adolf Hitler showed particular interest in this artifact as an attribute of imperial power. In the courtyard of the Hospital of the Holy Spirit, a wooden gallery has been preserved to this day, fully preserving the features of medieval architecture.
