Diesel-electric "Patria" in its first flight in a Norwegian harbor Hammerfest.Sudno was constructed and launched in 1938godu shipyard "Deutsche Werft" in Finkenwerder (Finkenwerder - left bank area in Hamburg). In those years, "Patria" was the largest diesel-electric passenger ship in mire.Vo the war ship served as a comfortable dormitory for senior staff German Navy, parked at various ports. After the war, the Soviet delegation at the Potsdam Conference raised the question of the proportional section of the remaining survivors of the German merchant fleet. At the closing session of the conference, it was announced that the German merchant fleet, regardless of its location will be equally divided between the USSR, USA and Great Britain. At the beginning of February 1946 there was a transfer of the former "Patria" to a new owner - the USSR.
