A photo taken in 1955 at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Washington state depicting a massive modernization of aircraft carriers from a straight line to a corner deck under the SCB-125 project. In the photo, six aircraft carriers are at the same time in work. In the dry dock on the left is the USS Essex CV-9, in the dock on the right is the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt CV-42, in front of Essex is the USS Yorktown CV-10 on completion, and on the pier on the left is the USS Midway CV-41. Two aircraft carriers are not visible to his left (most likely USS Lexington CV-16 and USS Shangri-La CV-38, which were there at that time). The photo was taken between July 55th when Essex started modernization and October 55th when Yorktown finished it (most likely in August-September, since Essex has already begun, but Yorktown is not finished yet). It is impressive that, despite the fact that the appearance of the aircraft carrier has changed dramatically, the modernization took only 6-7 months.
