The gate tower was built around 1500. The gatehouse is decorated with a two-story bay window, which was later replaced by casement windows, and four niches with sculptures. In 1880, renowned architect and restorer John Loughborough Pearson restored the bay windows . One-story annex also dates back to the 19th century.
