The Bratislava Royal Castle, located on a hill above the Danube, is the most famous of the castles of Slovakia and the most monumental. Castle Hill was of strategic importance - the fortress here has existed since ancient times, was repeatedly rebuilt by the Celts, Romans, Slavs, Magyars .. The heyday of the Castle began in the 15th century. under the emperor Sigismund of Luxembourg, and the golden age fell on the 16-18th century, when the capital of Hungary moved here due to the Ottoman threat. And in 1811, a severe fire turned the castle into ruins. Bratislava Castle was restored only in the middle of the 20th century. Now here is the exposition of the Slovak National Museum.
