View of Avignon from the Île de la Barthelasse. The island is located on the Rhône between the towns Avignon and Villeneuve-lès-Avignon. It is one of the largest river islands in Europe. On the other side one can see Pont Saint-Bénezet (famous for the song "Sur le pont d'Avignon"), Notre Dame des Doms and the impressive Palace of the popes ("Palais des Papes").
