Piazza Acquaverde, monument to Columbus. On the Columbus monument the central inscription is "A CRISTOFORO COLOMBO LA PATRIA". At the feet of Columbus sits a girl, symbolizing America in the central bas-relief - Columbus's speech at the council in Salamanca, where the decision about his voyage was made. On other bas-reliefs - Columbus's reception in Barcelona by the king, his arrival on the soil of America, and the return of Columbus in chains to Spain. The author of the monument is Lorenzo Bartolini, unveiled in 1862 (colorized slide)
