In this photo, everything looks serene, but actually, Calcho Fiorentino is a mixture of football, basketball and hand-to-hand combat. Starting from the XVI century, one of the squares (often Santa Croce) is covered with sand once a year and for 50 minutes, 54 strong men try to beat the spirit out of each other and at the same time throw the ball into the goal basket. Players dress up in historical costumes that quickly leave only rags. The spectacle is impressive.
