Construction of the church began around 1300 and was completed in the second half of the 14th century. During the British bombing on April 26, 1942, most of the church was destroyed. The tower's mass and interior decoration, including the Renaissance pulpit designed by Rudolf Stockmann in 1582, the 15th-century crucifix, 16th-century inscriptions and many paintings were irretrievably lost. For a long time it stood in ruins, the remains of the church were finally demolished in 1960. Today, on the site of the church there is a memorial square between Apostelstraße, Bei der Jakobikirche and Pädagogienstraße. For more information about the church, see.
