In May 1871, the Palais Royal is set on fire by the revolutionary Paris Commune. Fortunately, residents and employees of the Banque de France can quench the fire, so that only the right wing and part of the main building are damaged. In subsequent years, the Palais Royal is restored and since then houses the Conseil d'État, an important French institution.
