Railway bridge over the Firth of Forth or just a bridge across the Forth (Eng. Forth Bridge) - a bridge across the Firth of Forth Bay on the east coast of Scotland. The bridge connects the city of Edinburgh with the Fife region of Scotland. Erected from 1882 to 1890, the bridge became one of the first cantilever bridges in the world, and also had a maximum span of several years. For most of the 19th century, two wide fjord-shaped bays of the North prevented the organization of direct railway links on the east coast of Scotland between Edinburgh and Aberdeen seas - Firth of Forth and Firth of Tey. In 1806, it was proposed to build a tunnel under the Firth of Forth, and in 1818 a bridge, but both projects were rejected.
