France > Normandy > Orne > Gouffern en AugeA perfect example of the large estates of XVIII century in Normandy. This building was rebuilt in 1780-1785. from the old feudal castle in 1422. The castle consists of a main building with two rectangular wings. The southern facade is decorated with a slightly noticeable risalite topped with a triangular pediment. The interior of the castle has remained a large wooden staircase with a central span and two divergent marches. Wrought iron railings were made in 1783. The large living room is decorated with wood paneling.
