The cathedral was built in 1898-1903 gg. Often mistakenly referred to as the Cathedral of the Orthodox Church, but almost no one remembers that it was originally built as the Roman Catholic Church. After joining Adjara to the Russian Empire in Batumi, a flood of foreign citizens, among whom were representatives of different nationalities, many of whom profess Catholicism. Since the XIX century, in Batumi there was no Catholic churches, the representatives of this religion appealed to the authorities for the construction of sobora.Sobor was built on donations of believers, but one of the main investors became wealthy oilman Stefan Zubalashvili. Thanks to his efforts, the construction of the cathedral was completed in 1902, and in 1903 he was osvyaschon.Posle revolution, when Georgia joined the Soviet Union, the cathedral was confiscated by the government and placed under different administrative and economic needs.
