Looking northwest across Wilshire Boulevard, just east of where it intersects with S. Norton Avenue. The United of America Building is seen on the right Perino's, the once highly popular dining spot, and the Spanish style Los Altos Apartments are seen in the center. Designed by Paul Williams, this was the second and last structure for Perino's, which closed in 1986. After the restaurant was torn down in 2005, a 4-story, 47-unit apartment building was built in its place. Built in 1926 by Edward B. Rust and Luther Mayo in a Mission Revival style, Los Altos was originally developed as a "co-op", but went bankrupt during the Great Depression. In 1999, the structure received a design award from the California Preservation Foundation and was added to the National Register of Historical Places.
