Five talented Italian sculptors worked over the most beautiful fountain in Naples, Neptune (fontana del Nettuno) at different times. By order of the governor Enrico Guzman, Count Olivares (1595-1599), it was created by Giovanni d’Auria and Domenico Fontana. Then the composition was installed in the port opposite the arsenal (1601?). In 1625, due to lack of water, the fountain began to look for a new place. In 1628 (1629?) The first move of the fountain ended: it was installed on the current Piazza del Plebiscito opposite the Grand Palace. When moving, Pietro Bernini and Michelangelo Naccherino added a few more figures to the fountain: dolphins, newts, and a new statue of Neptune. But the fountain didn’t take root in the square either: it was a place of city holidays, and the fountain simply disturbed everyone. In 1634, the fountain was again moved and installed on the pier of Santa Lucia (banchina Santa Lucia).
