The temple was built in honor of mandulis (Nubian sun god). With the help of Germany Kalabsha Temple was moved, along with other attractions during the construction of the Aswan Dam, to protect it from rising waters on Lake Nasser. The temple was moved to a new place, located to the south of the Aswan Dam. The process of transfer of the temple took more than two years. Temple of Kalabsha is now considered one of the finest examples of Egyptian architecture in Nubia. The point is relatively new church location.
