The initial project of extension of the railway line to the border with Portugal assumed its construction in the east and south of the city with the intersection of the Tormes River around the place where the Pradillo Bridge is now. However, after receiving a contract for construction, the contractor company offered another version of the route by around the city from the north and the West. A shorter route around the city, a shorter bridge over the river and convenient for construction of the bridge, the stony banks of the river allowed to save 4 million reals. In January 1883, the city council of Salamanca approved the change in the route. In 1944, a south-east trafficking project was proposed for this line, which was implemented by 1954. The new route almost completely repeated the initial route proposed in the early 1880s. After the opening of the new site in September 1954, the North-West section of the line was disassembled.
