Grande Chartreuse, Grand Chartreuse (French La Grande Chartreuse.) - Catholic monastery in France, the oldest and the main monastery of the Order of Carthusians. Located in the southeast of France, 3 kilometers north-west of the village of Saint-Pierre-de-Chartreuse in the French department Izer.Monastyr was founded by St Bruno of Cologne and six of his novices in 1084 in the mountains of the Chartreuse, in a deserted area north of Grenoble. Initially, the village was built with a cruciform arrangement of wooden huts and stone church. This first monastery was named La Grande Chartreuse, and to this day is considered to be the founding mother ordena.V 1132 the monastery was destroyed by an avalanche and rebuilt 2 kilometers south of the old place, where there is today. Repeatedly (8 times) in the monastery broke out large fires, but each time the Grand Chartreuse quickly rebuilt. The bulk of the buildings of the monastery built in the XVII century, some belong to the XIV-XV centuries.
