In ancient Athens, performances in the theater of Dionysus took place at the expense of wealthy people of the city, the so-called Khoreg (sponsors). The ferret who provided the funds for a better presentation of the year received a prize from the city authorities. The Athenian rich Lysicrates, the patron of many theatrical activities in the theater of Dionysus, erected a monument in honor of the victory of the play, the production of which he financed at Dionysius 334 BC.
