In 1974, a new airport building was built at the Chisinau airport. The project was made by the specialists of the organization Lenaeroproject. From the moment the new building is delivered, the airport’s capacity has been significantly increased - up to 400 passengers per hour, later it reached 700 passengers per hour. In the mid-1970s, regular flights were operated in 40 cities of Moldova and 40 other cities of the USSR. The volume of passenger transportation was about 800,000 in 1976. In the 1980s, 35 aircraft and 98 helicopters were based at Chisinau Airport. On the day of Moscow, 12 flights were sent, two flights to Leningrad, Sochi, Mineral Waters and Rostov. The take-off and landing strip of the airport was increased to 3590 meters, it became possible to accept almost any type of aircraft at the Chisinau airport. In 1987, flights were made from the airport to more than 80 cities of the Soviet Union.
