Photograph circa 1973.The first building in the United States to be constructed by Kajima International, Inc., is the Sumitomo Bank building, pictured here. The groundbreaking for the 15-story office building, located at the southwest corner of 1st and San Pedro Streets, featured ceremonial rituals performed by a Shinto priest on August 7, 1966. The street with the Tokyo Gardens Coffee Shop, the Orient, and the Sun Hotel, would later be torn down to build Weller Court shopping mall and the street renamed for Astronaut Ellison S.
