Chicken processing changed to potato processing on a site located on the Belfast waterfront. Maplewood Poultry Company purchased the site originally occupied by a fertilizer factory in 1946 and soon were processing locally grown chickens. In 1982 following the closure of the poultry company, Ted Starrett of Penobscot Frozen Foods purchased the plant and refurbished it in order to produce potato products which included stuffed baked potatoes and potato skins. Penobscot McCrum potato processor purchased the assets of Penobscot Frozen Foods in 2004. Potato production ceased on March 24, 2022, following a destructive fire.
