This temple was built in the late XIX century on the site of an ancient church, which in 1166 built the Georgian King George III in honor of the birth of his daughter - Tamara. Here the queen Tamara was married to David Soslani. In 1795, during the invasion of Agha Mohammad Khan church was destroyed. In 1880-84 Peter Imnadze priest, Fr Besarion Zedginidze and philanthropist George Kartvelishvili built it zanovo.K 1900 the church has acquired a modern look .
