Germany > Baden-Württemberg > Heidelberg(German Heidelberger Schloss, German Schloss Heidelberg) - the main residence of the electors of the Palatinate until the end of the XVII century. The castle rises above the city of Heidelberg on the northern slope of the Königstuhl mountain (80 meters high relative to the Neckar river valley). The castle was destroyed by Louis XIV during the War of the Palatinate Succession (1693) and only partially restored afterwards. In its cellars is stored the world's largest wine barrel.
