The main square in the Linz historical center of Linz (area length 219 m, width 60 m). Here is the town hall with a tower on which the astronomical clock of the beginning XVI century The town hall building was rebuilt in the Baroque style. In the center of the square is the Column of Plague. In 1716, a shameful pillar was built on the square, from which public executions were now carried out. However, a year later a column was erected in the name of the Holy Trinity at the site of the pillar. The 20-meter triumphal column of the work of architect Sebastian Stumpfegger was made according to the model of the Italian Anthony Beduzzi and completed by 1723. It symbolized the gratitude of the city for the happy deliverance from a number of misfortunes: the threat of war of 1704, the fire of 1712 and the plague of 1713.
