Greece > Attica > Regional Unit of West Athens > ChaidariDaphne Monastery Daphne Monastery (Daphnion) is located 11 kilometers from Athens on the Athens – Eleusis road in a Daphnian (laurel) grove. A small monastery was built in the VI century, by the end of the IX century it had grown to modern sizes and at the same time the main temple was erected.The monastery is located on the site of the Apollo temple destroyed in 395 by the Goths, and is named after the laurel tree (in Greek Daphne ), growing in the Athens region and considered sacred.
