Le Lapin Agile - a symbolic place of Montmartre: a historic theater "Agile Rabbit". In the XIX century. the building housed other entertainment facilities - "Cabaret killers." This name is not received due to the gathered visitors, thanks to its creative design - all the walls were portraits of serial killers. The previous name was not better - "meeting thieves" In 1880 the owner of the cabaret, wanting to brush up on the situation, ordered from the Parisian artist André Gilles a new sign. On it the author depicted tipsy hare, which holds in the paw and a bottle of wine at the same time selected from a skillet in which he tried to prigotovit.V title cabaret hidden double meaning: on the one hand, its name translates as "agile / smart rabbit» (lapin agile ), and on the other - conceals the name of the artist who created the sign -. Andre Gilles (Le Lapin à Gill = rabbit Gilles) "Agile rabbit" is open to this day.
