The palace was built in 1736-39 on the west side of Wilhelmstraße for Major General Adolf Friedrich Graf von der Schulenburg. After several changes of ownership, the princes of Radziwill sell the three -wing plant in 1875 to the German Reich. After subsequent renovation measures inside, the building will be used as an official apartment of the Chancellor Otto von Bismarck and the seat of the Reich Chancellery from 1878. The floor plan of the Palais grouped around a atrium is based on French models, which can be read on the stitch winds of the ground floor framed by round arches. The two-storey side wings are overwhelmed by a middle risalite with high arches and round windows as well as a gable triangle, in the high relief of two geniuses the imperial coat of arms. The end of the street is a richly decorated wrought -iron fence. Further structural changes in the building under Bismarck's successors in 1928-30 and 1934/35.
