The Ipswich Society archiveIPSOCScan-4063 Cliff Road 1960sLooking north with the waterless MAN gasholder on the right. Most of the buildings remain in 2014 and the Ship Launch PH is now a Chinese restaurant. The gasholder - 200ft high is very prominent - on Patteson Road. From York, Sandra Garside-Neville writes:I was drawn to your site due to searching for Klonne Gasholders. We had one in York, and I am currently researching all aspects of the beasts. They are waterless gas holders and there are various types of these. On looking at your photos, I am pretty sure that Ipswich's waterless gasholder was actually a MAN - Maschinenfabrik Augsburg-Nürnberg. The main way to tell is that MANs have angles, so are polygons, whereas Klonnes are nearly circular to look at.I really like your site, particularly as the Ipswich waterless gas holder was patently used in a similar fashion to York.
