The first church in honor of Mary Magdalene, who was laid down by the Governor V.A. Itshkov, was sealed in 1891, and then disassembled. But the parishioners decided to revive this temple and donations began. At the same time, the new place of the temple was determined - the Alexandrovskaya Square (now theatrical Square). However, the foundation of the new Maria-Magdalene church was laid only in seven decades - in 1862. Another 35 years left for the construction of this temple. He was consecrated in 1897. At the same time, the Square was laid around the temple, which today became a favorite place of recreation Mariupoltsev. In the Mary-Magdalin Church, among other things, the presidential icon of the Savior of the Savior of the Savior of Zaporizhzhya Cossacks was kept. The church was demolished in the first half of the 1930s. In 1960, the building of the Dramatic Theater was erected at the site of the Mary-Magdalin Church.
