US President Gerald Ford waves to the crowd on Commerce Street during the Texas State Fair Parade on October 9, 1976 in downtown Dallas. Ford and Texas Gov. Dolph Briscoe stood in the hatch of the presidential limousine as Secret Service agents kept a close watch on parade-goers. It was the first time a president had driven through Dallas in an open-top car since the assassination of John F. Kennedy on November 22, 1963.
