Corinth Canal The Corinth Canal is a canal in Greece connecting the Saronic Gulf of the Aegean and the Corinthian Gulf of the Ionian Seas. Dug through the Isthmus of Corinth connecting the Peloponnese with the mainland. The name received in honor of the city of Corinth, located at the western end of the canal. The channel is 6 kilometers long and 8 meters deep. The walls of the canal are of natural origin, mainly from limestone, the height of the walls reaches 76 meters. The width of the canal at sea level is 25 meters, and at the bottom of the sea - 21 meters. One railway and three automobile bridges are thrown across the canal. In addition, submerged bridges function on both sides of the canal. After the opening of the Suez Canal, the Greek government issued a law in November 1869 on the “crossing of the Corinth Isthmus by the canal”
